Tips to keep a person with haemophilia healthy

What can be done to stay healthy?

Take care of the hygiene of their mouth and gums to prevent bleeding and the need for dental procedures. They have to brush their teeth thoroughly and visit the dentist regularly.

Avoid intramuscular injections. When injection is necessary, should be performed subcutaneous.

Never receive medication without the advice of their doctor, because some of them affect blood coagulation (e.g. aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory).

If they are to undergo a surgery, they always need to inform about their medical history the health professional who will be performing the surgery and refer them to the relevant Haemophilia Center.

Follow a personalized physiotherapy program to repair their muscles and joints after a bleeding episode.

Know how to recognize the signs of internal bleeding in order to deal with it correctly and timely.

Get informed of the proper management of haemophilia.

Participate in social and leisure activities.
